I thought lifting weights would make me look bulky

After spending a few weeks researching the various gyms in Armagh I decided to try Clarke Fitness as they offered the most suitable class times for me. The 6 am R30 was the program I signed up to. Exercising was not new to me but I do not have the motivation to work out on my own in a gym setting. For that reason it was very important that I sourced somewhere that offered a varied class of weights, cardio and core work that I would enjoy and also keep me motivated to achieve my goals.

Initially I was a little hesitant about the five mornings per week as I was previously used to doing only 3. However once I committed to the program  my body adjusted very quickly and easily to the early starts each morning. Early morning training may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it gives me a great buzz and I feel the benefits of it throughout the day. It’s also great to know I have my exercise done for the day when I come home from work each evening.

From the outset there was huge emphasis put on correct technique with lifting weights to ensure the safety of everyone in the group. Ronan has a unique way of getting the best out of everyone, offering encouragement continuously in helping us reach our goals.

For me personally my goal was to increase my overall fitness and strength but I was afraid that I would bulk up from lifting weights. After two waves of the program I can definitely say I’m noticing a big improvement in my strength. And I am delighted to confirm it is possible for a female to get stronger without looking bulky.

The R30 is so much more than an exercise program. Regardless of what your goal is it will help you achieve it whether it’s physically, mentally or nutritionally. The camaraderie and support within the group is great and the encouragement pushes everyone to be the best they possibly can be. The nutritional element fits easily into my daily lifestyle. I love working out in a small group that has a structured program and the balance between weights, cardio and core work is perfect. It keeps my mind healthy as much as it does my body and for me that is invaluable.

The R30 program is part of my daily routine and I would strongly encourage anyone considering a healthier lifestyle both body and mind to sign up for the next wave of the program. You will not regret it!

Having completed two waves of the R30 program all that’s left for me to say is “BRING ON” round 3!!!
