The hardest thing to do at the start of any gym program is committing yourself to do it. I’ve been around team sports and individual sports people for a life time, but I’ve realised that they are no different than someone who is looking to change their own lifestyle and body composition.
Everyone needs a plan: Starting point and finishing point. Your goals will have to suit your own needs and nobody else. I have to stress the last point because it is essential that it’s for yourself.
Here are my top 5 motivation hacks that will help you combat you fear of the gym.
Saying “I want to lose 3stone in 3 weeks “is just plain unrealistic
With similar goals. choose wisely because you will be looking to this person to motivate. You don’t want to be struck with someone who will have a negative effect.
If you don’t want to go down the personal training route with a workout buddy, consider joining a class. You will help motivated by the fact that you will have to pay for classes up front. Find the classes that suits you and that will help you learn a new skill like weightlifting, core stability there are a vast of classes available within the gym.
Start you own exercise journal this is a great way of keeping tabs on your process. Write down everything from food choices, to workouts, calories burned within the session and most importantly the obstacles that you have overcome. You could be the inspiration for someone else to start. Take pictures before this will give you a great visual aid that will help push you to the next level.
Sign Up for a special event like a 5k run or a tough muder event. This will give you a long term goal but plan short term goals that will let you achieve your ultimate goal. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends they will give you the guidance and motivation to succeed.
